Shane Coen Appointed to GSA Peer Review

Shane Coen, Principal of Coen + Partners, has been selected to serve on the GSA National Registry of Peer Professionals.  This appointment follows a winning entry in the 2010 Design Excellence Awards for Landscape Architecture for the U.S. Land Port of Entry in Warroad, Minnesota.  Shane will join a select group of highly regarded private-sector professionals in the fields of design and architecture to advise the GSA Public Buildings Service for the next two years.  Shane will help the GSA select design teams for their numerous governmental projects and participate as a critic during the design process to achieve the best solution for the given program and budget.

In 1994, the Office of the Chief Architect (then the Office of Fee Development) initiated the Design Excellence Program in the General Services Administration’s (GSA) Public Buildings Service to improve the quality of the work environments of its Federal customers .  The program works to create spaces that instill a sense of civic pride and value to their communities, thereby increasing the economic and social value of GSA’s real estate portfolio.  Since 1994, GSA has sought to elevate the quality of federal art, design, engineering, and construction through these programs. The cornerstone of this effort is the National Registry of Peer Professionals. Composed of the nation’s most distinguished private-sector leaders in art, design, engineering, and construction, peers advise the agency on all aspects of the program—the selection of design teams and artists for their projects, the concept development and construction of their buildings, and most important, the integrity and standards of the program as a whole.
