Depot Hill Amenia, New York

Coen + Partners is currently completing a planning study for a new equestrian community located in the hamlet of Amenia, within New York’s picturesque Hudson Valley. The site is a 480-acre area of rolling pasture and remnant forest mottled with the existing infrastructure of an equestrian farm, including barns, riding corrals and trails.

Coen + Partners’ challenge for the site is to fit residential dwelling units within the existing fabric of an operational horse farm. Taking cues from the existing infrastructure and topography, the active community and equestrian spaces are focused around an existing ring road with development clustered against existing hedgerows at the paddock edges. The goal of the layout is to visually combine the home site with the corral, blurring the line between pasture and traditional yard. Residential and equestrian areas are grouped in select areas on the site devoting nearly half of the site for open space preservation. An extensive trail system provides horse owners with direct connections to local and regional riding trails.
