The Hawthorne EcoVillage development represents a shared vision among Hawthorne neighborhood residents and leaders, community agencies and the City to respond pro-actively to the area’s toughest issues: crime, poverty, rising foreclosure rates and vacant housing, unemployment, and overall resident health.
The design arose from a series of community meetings and in close collaboration with Project for Pride in Living. The masterplan took into consideration scales ranging from city to neighborhood to individual residents in order to develop a holistic design utilizing best practices in community based development, neighborhood revitalization, and sustainable green development in order to create a model for more healthy, stable, and livable communities.
