Albrecht Residence Red Wing, Minnesota

Perched on the limestone bluffs of Red Wing, Minnesota, the Albrecht residence has commanding views of the Mississippi River. The house, designed by architect David Salmela, is a contemporary cottage emerging from a rich landscape of brick, bluestone, limestone, and ironwood. Coen+Partners organized the site into a series of outdoor rooms, from the auto court and garden house to an exterior court of bluestone walls and turf leading to the home. Moving around the house, upper and lower stone terraces parallel the lake and access a cliff climber dropping seventy feet to the lakeshore below.
