Type Variant House Northern Wisconsin

Coen + Partners developed the site master plan, supervised planting and selected the exterior finishes for this 8000 square foot residence on a five acre site in the vast forested lake region of northern Wisconsin. The structure’s straightforward aesthetic of industrial construction is enlivened by the surface materials and finishes, which change color over time, showing wear and blurring the lines between the architecture and the landscape.

Planes of bluestone make the transition from interior spaces to outdoor courtyards and to anchor the structure to the earth. Mature hardwoods were transplanted from the surrounding forest to support the concept of the house ‘emerging’ from the site. Native groundcovers naturalize these groves and blend with the existing forest floor.
