Heart of the City Grand Opening!
Today marks the official opening of Heart of the City! This project brings life to two blocks of streetscape and a pedestrian space in downtown Rochester, Minnesota. What was previously a car-dominated roadway and rundown plaza is now a bustling pedestrian streetscape and flexible plaza punctuated by public art.

The project is a close collaboration between the City of Rochester, Destination Medical Center, and the Rochester Downtown Alliance—and incorporated a robust community engagement process. We have led the landscape architecture and streetscape design for this project since 2017, in collaboration with RSP Architects, HR&A Advisors, Kimley-Horn & Associates, Latent Design, El Dorado, and local and national artists.
We are humbled to have been a part of such a transformational project for the City of Rochester, and very proud of this milestone in the project. Stay tuned for updates on the next phase of downtown development: Discovery Walk, which is currently under construction.
