Kirk Hiatt

Senior Associate

Kirk is a licensed landscape architect with over 11 years of experience. His diverse project portfolio includes custom furnishing design and fabrication, detailed residential site designs, community-enhancing urban parks and plazas, high-rise amenity terraces, ecological transformations of landfills into city parks, innovative playground design, campus planning for institutions, and comprehensive community master planning. He also possesses extensive project management experience spanning all design stages from concept to construction.

His passion for Landscape Architecture is deeply rooted in his background as an artist and painter. Landscape architecture is a natural extension of his creative journey. He firmly believes exploring and walking the land grounds the designer’s intuition. This grounding opens the mind to insights and connections that can only be made when the body and mind encounter the land.

He is also interested in the role of computation and emergent media in shaping landscape and urban spaces. During his previous role as director of technology, Kirk led workshops in 3D scanning, drone mapping, additive manufacturing, and parametric modeling for site analysis and design. He remains actively involved in exploring LLM and generative AI to enhance the design process.

Kirk savors life at a leisurely pace, finding peace in spending quality time with his family amidst the beauty of nature. He nurtures a small garden with an intentionally imperfect touch. When he can, he seeks balance through mindfulness meditation.

Kirk earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design and completed his graduate studies in Landscape Architecture at The Ohio State University.
